Album Art Downloader XUI β Free Album Cover Finder for Windows
Album Art Downloader XUI is the modern edition of Album Art Downloader, rewritten by Alex Vallat on .NET (XAML interface) as the successor to the older classic build. The latest stable release is v1.05 (2020-03-10), the final official version β free and open source under the GNU GPLv2 license.
It searches online sources for album cover art matching your music, so you can find and save high-resolution artwork (actual resolution depends on the source image) directly into your library.
Free download Β· GPLv2 Β· community mirror with SHA-256 provided for verification
What makes the XUI edition different
XUI was rebuilt from the ground up with a XAML-based interface, adding a modern thumbnail grid and library-wide tools the classic build doesn’t have.
XAML thumbnail interface
Freely zoomable cover thumbnails. Sort and filter results by name, image size, or source, so you can pick the best match fast.
File Browser
Scan your entire music library in one go and surface the albums that are missing cover art β then fix them batch by batch.
Foobar2000 Browser
Reads your foobar2000 media library or playlists and lists tracks and albums lacking embedded or folder artwork.
Command-line parameters
XUI accepts /ar (artist), /al (album), /p (path) and /autoclose, so taggers like Mp3tag can call it directly for the album you’re editing.
Community plugin scripts
Search sources are .boo scripts anyone can write or update. Around 20 community script sources have historically covered sites such as Amazon, Discogs, MusicBrainz and Last.fm. When a website redesign breaks a script, the community updates it β check for newer scripts if a source stops returning results.
Well-loved by collectors
The project holds a 4.8/5 rating from 69 reviews on SourceForge, reflecting years of use by music collectors fixing incomplete libraries.
System requirements
XUI is Windows-only software.
Operating system
Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11.
.NET Framework 3.5 SP1
Required. On Windows 10/11 it isn’t enabled by default β turn it on under Control Panel β Programs β Turn Windows features on or off, then check “.NET Framework 3.5”.
Frequently asked questions
Is XUI the latest version of Album Art Downloader?
Yes. XUI (the .NET rewrite by Alex Vallat) is the newer, modern edition, and v1.05 (2020-03-10) is the latest stable release β the final official version. The older classic build is the legacy one.
Is this the official site?
No. This is an independent resource site, not affiliated with the developer. Album Art Downloader was written by Alex Vallat; the official project home is on SourceForge. We mirror the release here for convenience with the official SHA-256 hash so you can verify your download.
Does it work on Windows 11?
Yes β XUI runs on Windows 7 through 11. On Windows 10/11, make sure .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is enabled in “Turn Windows features on or off”, since it isn’t on by default.
Is there a portable version?
The release is distributed as a small Windows installer (894.6 kB). We’re not aware of a separate portable build; install once and the program runs locally, only going online when fetching covers.
Is it really free?
Yes β Album Art Downloader XUI is open-source software under the GNU General Public License v2, so it’s free to download and use, with no ads and no bundled installers.
What if a cover source stops working?
Search sources are community .boo scripts, so a site redesign can break one. The community updates broken scripts β grab a refreshed script pack or updated script for that source and drop it into the scripts folder.
